If the rods aren't installed yet, plan the placement carefully to fit the shape and look you want.
Subtract 0.4–0.8 inches to allow slight ease between the rods and prevent over-stretching.
If you want a looser hourglass shape, allow a little extra length for more gathering at the center.

Step 2: Measure the Width of Your Window

Measure the width between the two sides of the window or opening where the fabric will gather. Add 1.5 to 2 times the width for a soft, full gather when the fabric is shirred onto the rods.

Step 3: Double-Check Your Measurements
