How to Measure for Pinch Pleat Drapes
Step 1: Measure the Length - Drop
Measure from the eye of the curtain ring or the bottom of the track glider to where you want the drapes to end.
- Window sill length: Measure down to the windowsill and subtract 0.4 inches for clearance.
- Apron length: Measure about 4–6 inches below the sill.
- Floor-length: Measure down to the floor and subtract 0.4 inches to prevent dragging.
- Full wall coverage: Measure from just below the ceiling down to the floor. Subtract 0.4 inches to keep the fabric off the ground.
- If your rod or track isn’t installed yet, estimate about 6 inches above the window frame, or higher if covering the full wall.
Step 2: Measure the Width of Your Window
Measure the width of the window recess and add 4–8 inches on each side. This extra width allows the drapes to open fully and stack neatly without blocking the window.
Step 3: Measure Your Curtain Pole or Track
- For a track: Measure from one end to the other.
- For a pole: Measure the width between the two finials.
Pinch pleat drapes need extra fabric for proper fullness. Multiply your track or pole width by 2.5 for the best look, or 3 times for sheers.
Step 4: Double-Check Your Measurements
Carefully review your measurements before ordering. Accurate sizing ensures your pinch pleat drapes will hang beautifully and create the polished look you’re aiming for.
