How to Measure for Rod Pocket Drapes
Step 1: Measure the Length - Drop
Start by measuring from the top of the rod to where you want your drapes to end.
- Window sill length: Measure down to the windowsill and subtract 0.4 inches for clearance.
- Apron length: Measure about 6-8 inches below the sill.
- Floor-length: Measure down to the floor and subtract 0.4 inches to prevent dragging.
- Full wall coverage: Measure from just below the ceiling down to the floor. Subtract 0.4 inches to keep the fabric off the ground.
- If the rod isn't installed yet, use about 6 inches above the window frame as a starting guide, or higher if covering the full wall.
Step 2: Measure the Width of Your Window
Measure the width of the window recess and add 6–8 inches on each side. This gives enough room for the drapes to fully cover the window and stack neatly when open.
Step 3: Measure Your Curtain Rod
Measure the full width of the rod, not including any decorative finials at the ends. For a fuller look, plan to use fabric that is about 1.5 to 2 times the width of the rod.
Step 4: Double-Check Your Measurements
Double-check all your measurements before placing your order. Accurate sizing ensures your rod pocket drapes will hang neatly and fit your space perfectly.
