How to Measure for Flat Panel Drapes
Step 1: Measure the Length - Drop
Measure from the bottom of the ring to where you want your drapes to end.
For window sill length, measure down to the windowsill and subtract 0.4 inches for clearance.
For apron length, measure about 4–6 inches below the sill.
For floor-length, measure down to the floor and subtract 0.4 inches to prevent dragging.
For full wall coverage, measure from just below the ceiling down to the floor. Subtract 0.4 inches for a clean look.
If the rod and rings aren’t installed yet, estimate about 6 inches above the window frame as a starting point, or higher if you want full wall coverage.
Step 2: Measure the Width of Your Window
Measure the width of your window recess and add 6–8 inches on each side. This allows the drapes to fully cover the window and stack neatly when open.
Step 3: Measure Your Curtain Rod
Measure the full width of the rod, not including any decorative finials at the ends. For a fuller look, plan to use fabric that is about 1.5 to 2 times the rod width.
Step 4: Double-Check Your Measurements
Double-check your measurements before placing your order. Accurate sizing will help your flat panel drapes hang beautifully and fit perfectly in your space.
