A Simple, Classic Look for Your Windows
Pencil pleat drapes feature tightly gathered pleats that create a neat, uniform look. The pleats are evenly spaced to give your windows a soft, tailored appearance. This style works well in many different room types, from casual living spaces to more formal settings.
These drapes are ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and more. The pencil pleats help the fabric hang smoothly and create a clean, structured finish.

How to Measure for Pencil Pleat Drapes
Step 1: Measure the Length - Drop
- If using rings, measure from the bottom of the ring.
- If using a track system, measure from the bottom of the glider.
- If hanging directly from a rod, measure from the top of the rod.
Then measure down to where you want your drapes to end:
- For window sill length, measure down to the windowsill and subtract 0.4 inches for clearance.
- For apron length, measure about 4-6 inches below the sill.
- For floor-length, measure down to the floor and subtract 0.4 inches to prevent dragging.
- For full wall coverage, measure from just below the ceiling down to the floor. Subtract 0.4 inches for a clean finish.
- If the rod or track isn’t installed yet, estimate about 6 inches above the window frame as a guide, or higher if you want full wall coverage.
Step 2: Measure the Width of Your Window
Measure the width of your window recess and add 6-8 inches on each side. This allows the drapes to stack neatly when open without blocking the light.
Step 3: Measure Your Curtain Pole or Track
- For a track: Measure the full length from one end to the other.
- For a pole: Measure between the two finials.
Multiply your track or pole width by 2 to 2.5 to get the right amount of fabric for a rich, full pleated look.
Step 4: Double-Check Your Measurements
Review your measurements carefully before ordering. Accurate sizing ensures your pencil pleat drapes hang neatly and create the structured, elegant finish you’re looking for.
